the wedding
WEDDINGS - I recently read through Jesus turning the water into wine & WOW, was that a party! They had DAYS of partying! Lots of wine, food, and I am guessing even dancing. :) Now hear me out, I am not saying that in order to have a "Biblical" wedding you need to have DAYS of celebrations or lots of wine. I am just trying to get the feel for what the wedding is all about. It seems like its suppose to be a BIG OL' PARTY celebrating this new covenant between a man & a woman. What an exciting thing! You are promising yourself to them FOREVER and EVER! You are promising to SHARE a life with them, love them continually, for the woman - to respect her husband & submit to him, to be his CROWN OF GLORY, his helpmeet, his companion, and SO SO MUCH MORE! What a calling! For the husband - to provide, protect, to love his wife, to live with her in an understanding way, etc.
The cool thing about marriage is you get to show off the Triune God! WOW! Thinking of marriage as reflecting the image of the Triune God has really helped me BEGIN to understand the trinity. Just as one man and one woman become one flesh, they are different but one, 2 but 1, so is the Triune God, 1 but 3, 3 different but all one. WOW! What a picture. When I first heard that I thought about it for a few months. It just absolutely amazed me that God would allow us to get to know Him in a better way through the picture of marriage.
Okay, okay! I know this is suppose to be about weddings! :) My brain is just so full of thought about all of this! I am trying to work through it all in my head and getting it on "paper" is not as easy as I thought. Lots of sorting! :) The wedding - The things most recently going through my head is the thought that if the parents are paying, they get to plan it! WHAT A RELIEF! We gave our wedding over to my parents a few months ago, since they would be paying for most of it AND WHAT A RELIEF! I know there will still be some tension, I am sure, but already there is way less friction and confusion of who does what. They do it all and delegate things to me! That way there is no confusion on who is running the show! And it also makes it really hard to be a bridezilla (as modern culture calls it) when your parents are running it. DISCLAIMER!!! - That doesn't mean I don't get to be involved in the planning or the wedding isn't going to look like a "kim wedding" (whatever that is) it simply means that they will do the majority of the planning and I am the helper! Its a gift from them and Ian & I are the guests of honor! What a nice gift!
Having your parents plan the wedding also helps keep the wedding in perspective. The wedding is just the door way, and I think far too often brides make it the house, then when marriage comes they don't know what to do and all their expectations are far from the truth.
